What skills does the worksheet cover?
Students practise recognizing figurative language and explaining what a comparison helps readers understand. For a simile, they look for comparisons using words such as like and as. For a metaphor, they identify a direct comparison without those words. For personification, they explore how a nonhuman thing is given human actions or feelings.
Tips for teachers and families
Begin by reading one sentence aloud and discussing its literal meaning. Ask learners to underline the comparison or human action, then explain it in their own words. Students may arrive at more than one reasonable interpretation. The answer key offers a suggested explanation, not the only acceptable wording. For a longer lesson, generate a second worksheet with a different selection of sentences.
